National News: The havoc of the scorching heat continues in Delhi. The maximum temperature of the capital was recorded at 43.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, which is 3.4 degrees above normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the next two days and advised citizens to be vigilant. Although the thermometer was showing 43.4 degrees, people felt a scorching heat like 49 degrees due to hot winds and low moisture. During this period, the humidity level was between 25 and 48 percent, which made the heat more unbearable.
According to IMD, heat and hot winds in Delhi will continue to bother until June 12. In the coming days, the day temperature is expected to be around 44 degrees, while the night temperature can also reach 28 degrees. There is a possibility of dusty thunderstorms (20–30 km per hour) and hot winds in the capital from 9 to 11 June. The Meteorological Department has released both Heatwave Alerts and Orange Alerts for these days. However, on June 12, there is a possibility of some change in the weather-the sky will be partially cloudy, and there may be drizzle in some places. A yellow alert has been issued for that day.
According to the Meteorological Department, there will be a slight drop in temperature between 13 and 15 June. In these three days, light rain and strong winds can occur with thundershine. The maximum temperature can be between 37 and 41°C. Although heavy rains are not likely, it will definitely provide relief from the heat. Experts say that humidity may increase after rain, which will lead to "hot and humid" conditions.
Along with the scorching heat, Delhi's air quality has also fallen. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), on Monday, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 235, which falls in the 'poor' category.
The Meteorological Department has appealed to the people to take special care of the elderly, children, and sick persons this summer. Avoid getting out in the open sun, drink enough water, and stay in shady places. Cases of heatstroke and dehydration are increasing rapidly.
